Our Community Involvement

The New Albany, IN lawyers at Church, Langdon, Lopp, Banet Law are committed to serving the community we share. We know how fortunate we are to be a successful part of the Southern Indiana region and we value the relationships we have built over the years. In addition to representing clients who need help with a range of legal issues, including estate and elder law, family law, personal injury, and criminal defense, we support and encourage a number of endeavors here in the heart of Kentuckiana.

Scholarships

Once again this year, CLLB Law is proud to have awarded college scholarships to three deserving high school seniors in their annual essay competition.

Allison Crosser of New Albany High School submitted her essay on the topic of Overcoming Learning Disabilities. Allison was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of seven. The seizures, headaches, and doctor’s appointments she faced for years made schoolwork challenging, but Allison says that her disability taught her to advocate for herself.

Addyson Banet of Floyd Central High School wrote about what her life will look like in ten years and chose the words “challenge” and “growth” as her motto. Addyson excelled in many leadership roles throughout high school and says that her ability to push herself prepared her for her future career path.

Amelia Meunier, also of Floyd Central High School, was chosen for her essay about Community Involvement. Amelia volunteered through her church’s Burrito Riders of Louisville program, where she delivered burritos to the homeless.

The Bicentennial Park Summer Concert Series

National, well-known musical acts need support, but so do local and regional musicians. Church, Langdon, Lopp, Banet Law recognizes the importance of the arts here in New Albany, which is why we were proud to sponsor The Bicentennial Park Summer Concert Series in June, July, and August of 2019. Our community is brimming with hard-working people who deserve a fun place to unwind after a long week. These free, after-work, family-friendly concerts took place every Friday night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in downtown New Albany at the corner of Spring and Pearl streets.

Harvest Homecoming

What started out as a 3-day pumpkin festival put on by the Tourism Bureau of the New Albany Chamber of Commerce almost 50 years ago has evolved into the spectacular week-long event known lovingly as “Harvest Homecoming.” Run entirely by volunteers and sponsors, this festival draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to New Albany, whether to check out the local talent, the craft shows, the Miss Harvest Homecoming Scholarship Pageant, or the parade. This family-oriented festival brings together the beauty, talents, and history of Southern Indiana while uniting the community through music, art, and more. This event was honored by the Library of Congress Bicentennial Local Legacies Project in 2000.

Indiana Kids’ Election Program

It’s our right as citizens to have a say in our government, which is why it’s so important that children learn about the process in school. Under Indiana law, all schools in the state are required to teach children about the election process two weeks before a general election. The Indiana Kids’ Election program (IKE) includes a hands-on simulation that takes students from registration (which was required to take place prior to October 11 last year), all the way through to a mock election on November 8 when students officially cast their ballots. The idea is to get kids to pay attention and become involved in the election process at local, state, and national levels — and to eventually have a positive impact on voter turnout in Indiana. We had the unique opportunity in 2016 to be a part of the action. Church, Langdon, Lopp, Banet Law attorney Dana Eberle delivered a 1-hour classroom presentation about how to make informed choices and the importance of doing so.

Power of Pink

Dedicated to raising money for breast cancer research and general awareness, “The Power of Pink” is a Southern Indiana organization for the men and women living with breast cancer, as well as for their families. Not only does “The Power of Pink” help obtain funding for research, it reminds the community that support is never far away and brings survivors together by hosting social events. The lawyers at Church, Langdon, Lopp, Banet Law enthusiastically sponsored and attended a 2016 fundraiser in support of this most important cause.

Beaux Arts Ball

Music is one of the great universal languages and one of the truest ways to join hearts and minds. The Beaux Arts Ball has been around for 19 years and includes a host bar, silent auction, live auction, a beautiful multi-course meal, and live entertainment. This black-tie event benefits VOICES of Kentuckiana, a 70-member chorus which celebrates diversity and fosters positive social change by reaching out to at-risk youth who feel isolated or otherwise alone, such as those struggling with their sexual identity or orientation. Church, Langdon, Lopp, Banet Law was a proud sponsor of Beaux Arts Ball and enjoyed the great company, great food, great wine and spirits, and delightfully lively entertainment that filled the evening.

Community in Sports

Local youth sports need support, just as much (if not more) than your favorite professional athletes! We support the children of our community in their love of the game, as well as their love of their teams. Every little bit helps, so these fun-loving kids can make memories, hone their skills, and maybe one day make it in the big leagues themselves. Church, Langdon, Lopp, Banet Law welcomed the chance to show our young people that the adults in their community care about what they’re doing, where they’re going, and who they want to be. Shout out to the State Little League Softball champions, as well as the Fusion Elite Softball team, a fast-pitch youth team. Thank you for the opportunity to help you soar!

Scholarships

Church, Langdon, Lopp, Banet Law continues to receive overwhelming interest in our scholarships. We offer two $500 awards to college-bound high school students. Indiana has many bright, caring, young people who not only want to better themselves, but also want to make their communities — and the world — a better place. Due to last year’s success, we are excited to be able to again offer a $500 scholarship focused on community involvement and a $500 scholarship focused on personal goals.

A Seat on the Board

Many of our attorneys have taken a leadership role within various organizations in our community. Demonstrating just how deeply committed we are to making an in impact in our area. Roles are attorneys have taken on include:

• Currently, Attorney Jason Lopp is a board member of the OSI Foundation. This is a supporting organization to One Southern Indiana, where he was a part of the Board of Directors for seven years. In addition, Jason was a former Chair of Metro United Way, Southern Indiana Campaign Committee and the former Chair of Rauch, Inc. and the Rauch Foundation, Inc..
• Attorney Gary Banet has served in a leadership position at many of organizations, including the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana Advisory Board, Waterfront Botanical Gardens, Floyds Knobs Community Club Little League, One Southern Indiana Foundation, Floyd County Humane Society, and Floyd County Youth Services Bureau.
• Attorney Dana Eberle is a Board Member of The Center for Women and Families and Chair of the Center’s Southern Indiana Partnership Council
• Attorney Marc Tawfik is currently on the Board of Directors at Leadership Southern Indiana and Habitat for Humanity Clark and Floyd County, Indiana. He is also an Associate Board Member, American Heart Association, Kentuckiana Chapter.

Ken-Ducky Derby

Who wouldn’t enjoy the sight of 30,000 plastic ducks bobbing their way down the Ohio River? Church, Langdon, Lopp, Banet Law is excited to join in the fun this year for the Annual Ken-Ducky Derby, a family-oriented Kentucky Derby Festival Official Event at Louisville’s Waterfront Park benefiting the programs and services of Harbor House of Louisville. Currently serving over 300 individuals with the potential to help many more, Harbor House empowers individuals with disabilities and their families to lead fulfilled and productive lives. With a goal of 500 ducks, we are pleased to be able to participate in the fundraiser for this worthy local, nonprofit charity.
